The most important aspect to good sitting posture is retaining a forward tilt of the pelvis. So you have adjusted your chair, are sitting taller and have your feet planted. Now let’s talk about some minor things that can make a major difference.

Now if you have implemented the suggestions discussed in the last three articles, you will now be sitting taller in your chair. Here is how to adjust your work station so that it complements your newly improved posture and does not hinder your progress.

Monitor . . .

You will notice that you are sitting taller, which makes your monitor too low! If you don’t raise your monitor you will slouch your posture to bring your eyes down to the right level and undo all your good postural changes. Solution: Raise your monitor! Technically your eyes want to be LEVEL with the TOP of your monitor when you are sitting well, and the monitor will be arm’s length away.

Desk . . .

Tuck yourself in under your desk. If you sit away from your desk you WILL slouch your posture. If you tuck yourself in under your desk you will maintain your upright posture. It is as simple as that. So if your chair has arms on it that are preventing you tucking yourself under the desk, take them off. Or get a new chair.

Keyboard . . .

The simple rule with the keyboard is to ensure that it is low and close! So in other words your wrists want to be slightly lower than your elbows and the keyboard is close to your body. Because you are ‘tucked in to the desk’ remember. Having it low and close prevents you from hunching your shoulders (which leads to headaches).

Implementing these minor points will make a major difference to whether you keep up your new improved posture or find it ‘all too hard!’ A few more tips can be found here.
